Describing Digital Journalism as an emerging field for better career opportunity in Media Industry, Prof. Suresh said that from big media honchos to new media startups, all are investing and betting heavily on online media. For a young trained professional, it is quite easier to start a career in online media than conventional media, adding that with new-age news mediums like TV, Radio and New-Media internet platforms coming to dominate industry, digital journalism has emerged as a very lucrative career option for youngsters interested in this field. With the demand for content across platforms, one can work as a content creator, digital influencer, or event technology expert, he advised.
Prof. Suresh also highlighted the importance of good content and said that content requires duration to give it a context. People will always pay for value if you can create value. Understanding your subject matter is important, and not just how a platform works so that you can give it a unique perspective. Research and analysis are essential in forming opinions that have meaning and relevance. He suggested to students that while staying at home, students can use digital tools like smart phones for generating and editing content. Podcasting has also emerged as a career option.
Addressing the webinar Vice Chancellor Prof. Dinesh Kumar said with the rise of digital technology and use of social media platforms, there has been a sudden rise in manipulative fake news and misinformation being spread. While some of this false information may have been innocuous, it captures the larger menace every one face today. He urged everyone that no information should be shared without verifying the facts and authenticity of the news; this is also the need of journalism. He hoped that the webinar series would provide a platform to share knowledge and expertise on media issues.
